Free Photo Editing Tools

Published by Dany at 7:44 am under Software

Using the best tool for the job will almost always save time and money – but there are jobs that pop up only once or twice a year and you may not want to invest in an application to deal with those problems. I believe any product developer or online seller will benefit from owning and learning how to use Adobe Photoshop Elements – but if you never touch your photo except to crop and upload them, PhotoShop Elements may seem like overkill.

In that case, it is time to assemble a free toolkit:

Begin by downloading and installing IrfanView. The power of this little application is belied by its size. You will be able to perform all of the basic (crop, edit, resize) photo editing tasks.

If you want something more robust – look into Paint.net This is a more complicated application, akin in many ways to Photoshop Elements or Paintshop Pro. You’ll be able to work with layers and have a broad range of options for manipuating your imges.

If you want a simple image editor built in to a stellar image organizer, download Picasa. Google keeps improving this application. Even if you own PhotoShop Elements, if you take a lot of pictures, you might prefer Picasa’s organizer. In fact, you may wonder how you got along without it.

And today only – you can download a free, fully licensed copy of Image Mender from Give Away of the Day. This program will help you remove lines and dust specks and other small imperfections from photos.
