Don’t Try! What If You Succeed?!?

Success? Nooooooo!!!!
This is a true story.
A friend of mine produces a one hour webinar that teaches internet sellers how to market their business. She wants to do a class on newsletters, and she invited a well-known, easy for beginners to use newsletter company to be her guest.
They declined.
Well, that’s annoying – but the astonishing part is the reason they declined. The webinar would be archived, available for motivated buyers to watch at any time. It is possible, they said, that something might change in the future and the webinar would no longer be correct in every detail.
Therefore, better not to do it at all. Better not to reach an audience eager to subscribe to a newsletter service immediately on the day of the webinar than to risk someone maybe signing up sometime in the far future thinking “X” was true when “X” had since become “Y.”
It’s a new Fear of Success cliche.
No longer is a bird in the hand worth two in the bush. Now a petunia on the windowsill is too risky because it might encourage your neighbor to take up gardening, plant a rosebush, give you a bud vase with a beautiful long stem rose as a thank you for the inspiration, and you might prick your finger on a thorn in four years.
Better not to even try rather than start down that road!

Wow, that’s just crazy!
What service in their right mind would avoid talking to their targeted group of potential buyers because they can’t completely control the content?
I wonder, would Barack Obama be this close to the White House if he refused to make a speach four years ago, because he knew it would out of date, but still replayed?
Fear of success is real, but to sell your product you must relenquish control once in awhile.
